4 AREAS OF TESTING AND EVALUATION

Environment

Air and Surface Temperature

Average temperature for successful exterior painting is 10-28 Degrees Celsius or 50 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit.                   Ideal temperature is 15-25 degrees Celsius or 60-65 degrees Fahrenheit.

Air Contaminants

Dust and Dirt.

Humidity

Relative humidity

High humidity and low temperatures can cause moisture to form on a freshly painted surface.

Available Light

Surface Condition

Type of Surface

Metal,wood,plaster/drywall,cement based products,painted surfaces,plastics,etc.

Smooth,Glossy Surfaces

Porous Rough Surfaces

Chemical Contamination

Flexible or Rigid Surfaces

Moisture Content

Wood 12% or less.  Plaster and Concrete 10-12% or less.

Alkali or Acid Surfaces

Concrete has an alkali type surface.  Use Litmus paper to test the “PH Scale” (Percentage of  hydrogen) .  Acid Surfaces have low PH 1-6.  Alkali surfaces have high PH 6-12.

Application and Coating Checks

Film Thickness.

Even, smooth gloss or sheen.

Free from contamination.

No runs, sags, drips or holidays (misses or weak spots).
